Kalapathar Beach

Kalapathar Beach

Tucked away on the southeastern coast of Havelock Island in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago, Kalapathar Beach is one of those rare places where nature still whispers in peace. Named after the black rocks that line its coastline, this beach offers a striking contrast of turquoise blue waters, white sandy shores, and deep green tropical forests.

Unlike the busier Radhanagar Beach, Kalapathar remains less crowded, making it an ideal retreat for travelers seeking solitude and calm. The rhythmic sound of waves, the soft swaying of palm trees, and the golden light at sunrise create a surreal atmosphere that feels almost untouched by time. It’s not a place for loud adventures—but for quiet moments, barefoot walks, and simple beauty.

How to Reach :

Kalapathar Beach is located about 10 kilometers from the Havelock Island jetty.

By Air: The nearest airport is Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair, which is well connected to cities like Chennai, Kolkata, and Delhi. From Port Blair, travelers can take a ferry or catamaran to Havelock Island, a journey that takes about 90 minutes to two hours.

By Sea: Government and private ferries operate regularly between Port Blair, Neil Island, and Havelock Island. Once you reach Havelock Jetty, taxis, scooters, and rented bicycles are easily available to reach Kalapathar Beach.

By Road: The beach is a scenic 20-minute drive from the main market area or Radhanagar Beach. The road meanders through lush green forests and coastal villages, offering glimpses of island life.

Best Time to Visit :

The best time to visit Kalapathar Beach is between October and May. During these months, the weather remains pleasant, the skies are clear, and the sea is calm for swimming and photography. Monsoon months (June to September) bring heavy rains that enhance the island’s greenery but can limit outdoor activities.

Early morning and late afternoon are the most beautiful times of the day—the soft light, gentle breeze, and empty beach make it perfect for relaxation and photography.
