Mattancherry Palace,

Mattancherry Palace

Mattancherry Palace, also called the Dutch Palace, is a timeless heritage treasure in Kochi, Kerala. Built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and later renovated by the Dutch, the palace was gifted to the Cochin royal family. From outside it looks simple and modest, but inside it holds one of India’s finest collections of mural paintings depicting stories from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Puranic legends. Beautiful wooden ceilings, traditional Kerala architectural touches, royal portraits, palanquins, and period artefacts make this palace an immersive walk into royal life and maritime history. The surrounding Mattancherry and Jew Town lanes add charm with spice shops, antique stores, and old-world cafes.
